Collaboration Summary
My partner is Naduo Wu, and his graduation project is named REACTION OF SOUND. Since I have extensive experience in 3D animation production, I exchanged with Naduo\’s team member, and finally decided that I will cooperate with him.
To determine my job assignment, we communicated online. I am primarily in charge of creating UVs for 3D modelings, as well as textures and materials for modelings, lighting, and coloring the entire scene, and converting the model from grey to a normal scene in 3D animation. In addition, I searched a plethora of scene-style reference images. Naduo Wu stated that his story takes place in China, and he hoped that the scene would have a more Chinese feel, so I rendered scene textures and lighting to his specifications.
Naduo Wu expressed his satisfaction with the final result and even expressed a desire to continue the project with me after our collaboration period ended.
Display of results
I don\’t think I have perfected some details due to the short duration of our collaboration. Many textures can be enhanced and improved. In terms of lighting, I believe I did a good job, and it shows the feeling of sunlight pouring into the room.
The position I hold is also critical in the process of producing 3D animation. Of course, it can be divided into texture artist, lighting artist, and rendering post-compositor. In my work, I am responsible for all of these responsibilities. The process of the project went smoothly.
However, it is important to note that when working on projects for others, I may have to consider other people\’s ideas rather than my own, so it is best to consult with my partners before making any decisions to avoid disagreements.
We discussed the scene style at the start of our collaboration. Nadu Wu did not have a clear position on the scene style at first. He hoped I could make it according to my ideas, but I believe this is a waste of time. If my ideas do not align with his, the work I spend time producing may fall short of his expectations. So I showed him some of my previous work, and he said that the style of my work was consistent with the effect he wanted, so we looked for reference materials together and finally decided on the scene\’s style.
My Previous Work
The scene style references we searched mainly came from some environments and scenes in China, and the referenced animation art style was primarily from the Pixar film \”Turning Red,\” which I personally enjoy and is set in China. There are many Chinese elements worth learning from.

After I moved to UAL, I hardly ever encountered 3D, so some of the earlier 3D technologies slipped my mind. I am extremely grateful for this cooperation. Through this collaboration, I was able to recall these skills and perform skilled operations.
In the scene design, I considered the color concepts taught in the character design class, such as color properties, color contrast, and color\’s emotional impact. This knowledge was put to use in this collaboration.
This collaboration has given me more experience in working on projects with others, and I now understand that it is more important for everyone to discuss together than for one person to make all of the decisions.I enjoy this collaboration experience because it allows me to communicate and exchange ideas with others, and I am also pleased with the end result of this collaboration.
